Feeling Stressed?
Why not try osteopathy to make you feel less stressed? Lots of our current patients already do!
We can all get stressed sometime but may wonder what to do when stress overwhelms us.
At The Wimbledon Osteopath all our osteopaths are trained to focus on both your body and mind and understand that the two are often inseparable.
An uncomfortable body plays havoc with how you feel whilst a stressful mental state can disturb your gut or breathing for example.
Helping The Whole Body
When we treat your physical body, you get a positive effect on your mental well-being and this, in turn, makes you feel emotionally better.
Did you know that muscles can remain tense for long periods of time if you are continually stressed and they are not actually designed to do this. They then fatigue resulting in a myriad of aches and pains and conditions such as headaches or irritable bowel.
Our osteopaths are well equipped as experts in manual therapy to ease tight muscles, release tension and thus help your body to relax which in turn calms down the central nervous system. What we find is that our treatments get you physically relaxed and this makes your body more comfortable and this then makes you feel mentally happier and alert.
This is an invaluable help if you have a stressful job, have young children to care for or are suffering from chronic pain.

Learning To Breath, Properly
Your breathing is another part of the body massively affected by stress. When your ‘fight or flight’ response is set off, breathing becomes faster.
To counter this, we can release thoracic tension and teach you breathing techniques to help you understand what is going on and how better to control it. Why not try the clinically proven 4, 6, 8 techniques.
Especially good at night-time if you have problems sleeping. Breathe in for a count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 6 and then let the breath out for a count of 8. Try and do this for a few minutes.
Wide Range Of Physical Benefits
Stress can also tighten the muscles around you gut which can affect your digestion. Many people now suffer from a spastic gut or irritable bowel as a result. Patients often experience bloating, diarrhoea or constipation or tummy spasms which can leave you with prolonged discomfort or even pain.
All our osteopaths are trained in visceral osteopathy, the manipulation of organs such as the bowel. This technical massage is effective at easing tension which in turn can aid digestion. Along with other structural bodywork, exercises, lymphatic drainage and relaxing cranio-sacral treatments, we can get you on the right path to a less stressful existence.
Make sure you get enough sleep, consider mindfulness or mediation. It is hard to relax when you may feel overwhelmed but we are here to advise and support on the part to a happier and simpler life.
